Tamia’s Music Career

Tamia’s Music Career

As a small girl singing in front of her church congregation, Tamia realized that one day she wanted to sing professionally. “I always wanted to be a singer,” she once told the New Pittsburgh Courier, and for this girl from the projects of Windsor, Ontario, the dream came true.

Tamia has been singing and recording professionally since 1994, when she gained the attention of legend Quincy Jones while singing at a birthday party for Luther Vandross. In 1995, her very first single, “You Put a Move on My Heart,” landed high on the R&B charts at #12 and claimed a spot on Quincy Jones’ album Q’s Jook Joint.

Since then, she’s continued to gain attention with multiple Grammy nominations and international success. Take a tour of Tamia’s musical success.
