Tamia's new album Beautiful Surprise is nearing its release date and in preparation for the greatness to come, we're sharing a summary of the greatness already unleashed on the world of R&B by the one and only Tamia Hill.

Tamia's great love of music started early. Singing in the church choir as a child, she came to understand her calling to share her voice with the world.

In 1994 she received the exposure she needed to take the R&B world into her hands, catching the attention of the legendary musician and producer Quincy Jones while performing at a birthday celebration for Luther Vandross. One year later, her first single "You Put a Move on My Heart" climbed the R&B charts, securing the track on Quincy Jones' album Q's Jook Joint.

Three years after this big break, Tamia released her self-titled debut with Qwest/Warner Bros. Records and found herself a Grammy-nominated sensation including nominations for:

  • Best R&B Album
  • Best New Artist
  • Best R&B Song
  • and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance

The new century proved successful for Tamia's second album A Nu Day, released in 2000. Two hit singles were born from this collection including "Stranger In My House" which reached the #10 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and "Can't Go For That", together rocketing sales to over 668,000 copies.

The creation of her 2004 album More was a major challenge for Tamia, whose own diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and her husband's battle with a life-threatening infection impacted her life and pushed back the final release date from 2003 into the next year. Though some tracks had to be replaced and the title changed, her perseverance did not waver and More debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200 charts.

Between Friends was an international musical powerhouse selling over 800,000 copies in America and abroad. Tamia's poise and hard work scored her three hit singles from this album, including "Me," "Can't Get Enough" and "Almost." There were two releases, one in 2006 and another in 2007, differing in that one included a bonus DVD and the other added Christmas song recordings.

A favorite among fans, Tamia released her Greatest Hits album in 2009, selling a breath-taking 500,000 copies. This mix of most beloved tracks and the exciting addition of a video collection made fans yearn for more of Tamia's graceful and powerful work.

They will not be disappointed.

Beautiful Surprise, Tamia's upcoming sixth album is due to be released in late 2011. For all the most up-to-date information on Tamia's progress as well as keeping up with what she loves to share with her friends and fans, follow her on Twitter, and find her on Facebook!
